How to Write a Press Release
Press releases can make you some big bucks if you know how to write them. Some countries even hire full time writers to write press releases and related content. Most colleges don’t teach you to write press releases, though, so if you’re hired in this kind of position, you’re sort of thrown to the wolves to figure things out for yourself.
Want the down and dirty on writing a press release? Here’s a basic how-to:
1. Think of a press release as a traditional news article at its base - you should answer who, what, when, where, why, and how.
2. Follow the inverted pyramid format - most important information at the beginning.
3. Include at least one quote from someone in the company.
4. Include contact information for readers to learn more about the announcement.
5. End with a section entitled “About ABC Company” that includes information about the company
At the end of the press release, type ###, centered on its own line. This is the standard for indicating that your press release is finished.
